Aoshima re-releases a kit first introduced in Japan only back in 2012 with a focus on two of the space crafts from Gary Anderson’s acclaimed supermarianation series Thunderbirds. This is the Thunderbird 2 & 4 kit. Brian Messier was kind enough to share his review of this kit with us here on MSC.
Thunderbird 2 & 4 Kit
The Thunderbird 2 & 1 kit comes in Aoshima’s standard slip-top box with a classic Thunderbirds scenery for the box art. On the side, there are pictures of the built model pictures; a nice feature in my opinion.
Contents
- 4 – Green colored styrene hull sections
- 2 – Green colored styrene sprues
- 1 – Yellow colored styrene sprue
- 1 – Clear styrene sprue
- 3 – Decal sheets
- 1 – Set of instructions
The kit comes in four major sub pieces and 3 sprues. Two green sprues and one yellow sprue, as well as a clear plastic sprue for windows are included. Parts are very crisply detailed and completely flash free. There are some ejector pin marks in some fairly visible places but they are subtle enough that I believe a quick sanding will hide them under paint. The biggest shortcoming I can see is that the vehicles stabilizer legs have flattened ejector pin marks on the cylindrical legs.
Three decal sheets are provided and all decals are sharp and cleanly printed with very little edge flash. The instruction sheet is printed in Asian dialect and English, and the instructions feature easy to follow 7 step construction instructions, a single decal placement page, and a parts call out page. It is a tri-fold design and the images are large enough for simple construction to be completed.
Conclusion
My overall impression of Aoshima’s Thunderbird 2 & 4 kit is one of a well-designed, simple to assemble kit of a classic marionette kid’s TV show, the Thunderbrds. I can’t wait to crack open the box and get busy on a build review of this kit!
Modelers Social Club and MSC Review Connect would like to thank Brian Messier for providing this review of his Thunderbird 2 & 4 Kit from Aoshima.
